Produce Prescription Program
Funded through the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, the Gus Schumacher Produce Prescription Program seeks to improve participants' overall health and well-being by providing easier access to fresh, healthy, locally grown fruits and vegetables. The program is part of the Nutrition Incentive Program's Theory of Change, an innovative strategy seeking to prove that food is medicine and in doing so, increase the wellness and social determinants of health of all individuals within the communities we serve.
Eligible individuals must live in SEMO Food Bank's 16-county service area, be at least 18 years of age, assessed for food-insecurity, and referred by our healthcare partners. Consent must be given before participation can begin and survey completion is optional. Please read SEMO Food Bank's complete Produce Prescription Participant Explanation here.
After consent is given, participants may pick up their produce prescriptions on the 2nd and 4th Friday of each month as well as participate in recipe sharing, nutrition education, and other opportunities for community involvement.
